With inflation rates impacting the whole country, you likely expected the postage rates to increase as well.
Well, that is most certainly the case, as USPS has seen an increase in most shipping service rates, with some decreases here and there.
Increase in the Cost of Flat Rate Boxes and Envelopes
One of the services that has seen some significant fluctuations is flat rate mailings.
A small flat rate box costs $9.45, up from $8.45. Medium rate flat boxes have jumped 60 cents to $16.10 while large flat rate boxes have fallen 40 cents to $21.50.
For flat rate envelopes, regular ($8.95) and legal ($9.25) have jumped up a dollar, while the padded flat rate envelope jumped from $8.55 to $9.65.
Increase in Postage Stamps and Metered Mail
USPS “Forever” stamps have increased from $0.58 to $0.60. The good news is that Forever stamps are good for, well, forever. This means that any Forever stamps you currently have will still be good next year, no matter how much you purchased them for, so stock up now if you cannot stand any more increases.
Similarly, the current rate change proposal raises the cost of metered mail by four cents, from $0.53 to $0.57.
